The Controller is a key leadership position in the organization and should be viewed as possessing excellent financial and relationship skills. This position plays a vital role in the reporting of financial results, ensuring protection of company assets through strong internal controls and assisting in strategic planning. It is essential that the Controller manages not only self-development, but also that of the staff supervised.


The Controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of financial periodic reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.


The Controller will Maintain a documented system of policies and procedures for the Accounting & Finance Office. Oversees the operations of General Accounting, Accounts Payable and Payroll, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving goals and objectives. Proactively looks for opportunity for improvement in quality or cost in Accounting & Finance as well as the company as a whole. Participates in development of strategic planning and implements for Accounting & Finance planning objectives. The Controller is responsible for reporting, compliance and financial operations. Through budgeting, cost reporting and analysis, ensures the resources of the organization are planned for and protected. Substantial influence on cost; recommends substantial expenditures and has control over major expenditures for a whole department; has budgetary responsibilities and makes recommendations regarding the use and control of physical and financial resources.

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Accounting. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or MBA in Accounting preferred, but not required. Must have a minimum of eight (8) years accounting experience with at least three (3) years in a supervisory role. Not for Profit, Medicaid and/or health care experience preferred. Knowledge of office procedures, computer operations and a general knowledge of agency software used.


Must be able to prioritize, meet deadlines and demonstrate good judgment; handles sensitive situations with confidence. Must delegate well and manage the balance of strategy and daily operations with the resources provided. Develops a working climate that provides a productive environment; effectively communicates with all levels of staff.


Responsible for frequent decision making and execution of programs and projects within the department or program in cooperation with other departments and programs. Results have substantial impact on the agencies' objectives and image.
