The respiratory therapy manager provides respiratory therapy by physician's order according to policy and procedure and completes all related documentation, communication, maintenance and continuing education. The respiratory therapy manager will provide respiratory therapy to infants, children, adolescents and young adults with neurologic impairments.

Respiratory therapist responsibilities include:

  • Assist with evaluation, selection and coordination of admission of vent dependent people.
  • Manage acute and chronic respiratory problems in collaboration with the medical director.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation to comply with regulatory agencies and communicates effectively with the medical director, director of nursing, nurses, families/guardians and other members of the interdisciplinary team as appropriate.
  • Supervise staff respiratory therapists and validate skill competencies.
  • Oversee the evaluation and maintenance of respiratory equipment.
  • Provide education to staff about respiratory therapy related issues for ongoing continuing education.
  • May collaborate with staff development to develop and arrange training pertaining to respiratory therapy as needed.
  • Assist with teaching student nurses, medical students and residents as needed.
  • Participate in internal committees as agreed upon with supervisor including, but not limited to safety, infection control, quality, medical case review, HLCCD leadership council and ventilator team.
  • Collaborate with the medical director, director of nursing, nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure an effective plan of respiratory care for each person served.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining respiratory therapy policies and procedures as needed to assure quality services and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in research projects as needed.
  • Responsible for interviewing, selecting, motivating and developing employees, but has no administrative authority for manpower planning and/or budget functions.
  • Relationships with persons served are highly complex and of a special nature requiring continuous in-depth active treatment to resolve their total needs'work requires knowledge of up-to-date techniques of treatment, must have thorough knowledge of disability therapies or medical knowledge.
  • Responsible for assessing those who provide direct treatment and ensure services are provided.

The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor of science degree in respiratory therapy from an AMA approved school. Advanced education is preferred. The candidate must maintain a valid license or permit for practicing respiratory therapy, be a respiratory therapist (RRT) registered with NBRC and have a current Ohio license of active status without disciplinary action and maintain current BCLS certification. A minimum of three (3) years management experience of large respiratory therapy staff in a clinical setting, experience with care of people with complex medical needs, experience with mechanical ventilation is required as is a minimum of five (5) years critical care/ventilator management experience including PICU, NICU, pediatric transport.
